The Good, The Bad and The Ugly of #MSDyn365BC in the Cloud

In the brand-new episode of Tecman Talks Dynamics James, Liz, Matt & Liam discuss the highs and lows of hosting Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on the SaaS platform.

In the last couple of weeks, Microsoft dropped the long-awaited 2022 Wave 1 release of Dynamics 365 Business Central. As quick as the rollout was started, it was paused again as a few glitches and bugs were detected, so it has taken a little longer than expected to land in production environments. Of course, SaaS users update automatically, but if you manage your service yourselves and have a plan for updates or let your partner manage the service for you, you will be more prepared for when there are issues. By managing your service, problems are identified when updating your Sandbox – not your working system! – and the update is pushed back to when the issues are resolved. Obviously, if the update date is known resource can be arranged to be on hand to jump on problems should they be needed too.

As James mentions in the podcast, some of the issues in the latest update were ‘fairly show shopping’ – could you afford to be offline for an unspecified amount of time?

Liam also discusses the ins and out of licencing and an extension of the ‘Bridge to the Cloud’ promotion which offers a significant discount to encourage On-Premises users to transition to Dynamics 365 Business Central in the cloud. There are also changes coming to the Dynamics BREP (Business Ready Enhancement Plan aka Maintenance) for those with perpetual licences (typically on-premises customers).

With licencing changes, there are always pros and cons to assess, so tune in to discover why now is a good time to assess your licensing going forward and how you should always ‘do the maths!’ before you sign on the dotted line.
