Quick reminder on the requirements from HMRC to Make Tax Digital

If you have a VAT registered business with revenue over the VAT registration threshold of £85,000 then by April 2019 you must:

  • Keep all your tax records digitally
  • Send the VAT return to HMRC using Making Tax Digital compatible software

Sending your VAT return using Dynamics 365 Business Central or Dynamics NAV

All existing or new customers with Dynamics 365 Business Central or Dynamics NAV 2015 and beyond can rest assured that they have a 360-degree solution for VAT management that will make VAT reporting simple.

What are some of the key features of Making Tax Digital in Business Central?

Senior Program Manager of Dynamics 365 Business Central, Søren Friis Alexandersen has revealed a host of exciting new features that will help Making Tax Digital become a slick process within Dynamics 365 Business Central or Dynamics NAV, which include:

  • Visibility into your VAT obligations so you know which period should be reported and when
  • Creating VAT returns based on VAT obligations to enable you to create a VAT return in one click
  • Reminding users of upcoming VAT obligations to make sure you never forget to file your VAT return
  • Submitting the VAT return to HMRC in just one click with an immediate receipt
  • Viewing your VAT liabilities and payment so you can easily get an overview of your VAT payment status with HMRC

When are these Making Tax Digital features set to become available?

Microsoft are targeting the December update of Dynamics 365 Business Central and Dynamics NAV which perfectly ties in, as HMRC have just opened a public beta of their systems, if you fancy engaging in a pilot with the HMRC.

It’s important to reiterate that updates will only come for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2015 and beyond. If you’re on a version before that, we urgently need to start planning an upgrade. With a current maintenance agreement for Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you will be entitled to receive the update and we simply need to plan its implementation.

If you’re not on a supported version, please get in contact with us today to understand what you will have to do to be able to submit your VAT return from just next April onwards.
