Dynamics 365 Business Central helps your data remain safe and secure

(Reading time: 1 minute)

Any business that collects data on citizens in EU countries will need to comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that is set to be enforced on Friday 25th May.

Brexit doesn’t mean you are exempt if you own a business in the UK, as confirmed and reiterated by the Prime Minister, Theresa May. In turn, you are destined to be challenged as you will need to set the correct systems and processes in place to comply.

Compliance isn’t a choice either, as the Information Commissioner’s Office have a range of corrective powers and sanctions to enforce GDPR. These can include warnings, imposing temporary bans on data processing, ordering the rectification, restriction or erasure of data; and suspending data transfers to third countries. There are also two tiers of administrative fines that can be levied:

  • Up to 10 million, or 2% of annual global turnover – whichever is higher
  • Up to 20 million, or 4% of annual global turnover – whichever is higher

Here at Technology Management, we are taking the necessary steps, in order to comply with the new GDPR. We recently hosted our very own ‘Getting to Grips with GDPR with Microsoft Dynamics’ event, where we covered what it meant for users of Dynamics software:

Following the release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, a lot of businesses will have been delighted to see the pricing of £52.79/$70 per month for Essential or £75.40/$100 per month for Premium. However, the hot topic of consideration will be: “Is this software GDPR compliant?”

Dynamics 365 Business Central considers GDPR compliance

Microsoft are thoroughly committed to ensuring that you can place your trust in them as a cloud service provider. With over a billion customers, they have made the necessary steps to ensure your business can maintain trust in their service. If you’re still doubtful, do you think Microsoft want to be at the mercy of an administrative GDPR fine?

Within Business Central, there is role-based security which enables you to control who can do what within your systems, which is vitally important if someone changes roles in your organisation as they can potentially breach important data protection or security rules. You will also have record-based security to restrict access to customer records. Finally, field-level security ensures you can protect sensitive data such as sexuality, ethnicity and religion.

If you find yourself sifting through disparate data relating to customer records prior to GDPR, then a switch over to Business Central may save you time, effort and ultimately money. Microsoft’s dedicated Compliance Manager is a cross-Microsoft Cloud services solution designed specifically to help organisations to match complex obligations such as GDPR.

Not only is Business Central a secure platform, following implementation you will gain all the associated benefits that the software offers. Unify your business and boost efficiency with automated tasks and workflows. Achieve greater outcomes and gather a holistic view of your business data, analytics and guidance with Microsoft’s leading intelligent technologies.
