Being Prepared for Brexit in the Building Materials Industry

Reading time: 2 - 4 minutes

‘Deal or no deal’ Brexit. Yes, that right, I’m sure you’re all fed up of hearing those words by now. The fact is, it’s still one of the most talked-about topics for a lot of businesses across the Building Materials industry.

There are many factors that could impact the Building Materials industry but none of them is guaranteed to happen as the government still don’t have a clue what the outcome will be! Instead, industries are trying to prepare as best they can, or just waiting it out. As a result, they are struggling to overcome the market uncertainty impacting their business due to Brexit being consistently delayed since the initial announcement made 3 years ago.

Soaring material prices with ‘no deal’ Brexit

Research from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) has found out that more than half (53%) of those polled say a ‘no deal’ Brexit would result in higher material prices. Just under a third (29%) say it will lead to lower workloads and enquiries and just over a quarter (26%) say it would result in less access to skilled workers. Essentially, it’s not going to be plain sailing for the Building Materials industry!

The biggest concern is for widely used building materials such as timber. Timber is largely imported and there may be pricing changes and not for the better! A ‘no deal’ Brexit may also result in lower workload and enquires. Due to people not having the confidence in the economy which may lead it to wobble. In turn, people are likely to distance themselves and abandon any new plans and projects until they have more trust that the UK is stable.

Dynamics Building Materials can help you to safely make key business decisions

There is no way we can possibly tell you exactly what you need to do to prepare for Brexit seeing as the government don’t even know. However, we are sure that businesses who are using or are about to implement Dynamics 365 will be the ones to watch. Why you might ask? Well, the difference is these businesses are already preparing their organisation for the next wave of innovation, and you need to make sure you’re ahead when the time comes!

Our Dynamics Building Materials solution can make sure you are keeping tight control on costs, margins and customer service, so that you can ensure you remain on top without putting your business at risk. You will also be able to maintain the level of service that your customer deserves. After all, these are the people who will keep businesses going!

The communication breakdown in the EU is the perfect example, of when there are multiple divides between people and systems. If the UK is to face a decline in manufacturing, or in construction output like it is rumoured, then a drive to be the cheapest may just put you in the running of the race to the bottom. The companies that survive are the ones that will deliver value beyond the invoice.
